Maybe someone can direct me to a FAQ regarding stator reg/rec problems. Ive had a few "ciock resets" in the past few months. I commute every day on my '06 6th gen. I keep it on a trickle charge So yesterday at lunch i'm running some errands and i get on and it wont start. so... i pushed it 5 mph and bump started it went back to work. After work, had to bump start it again. I get halfway home and it just dies at a red light, i get it towed home.

I'm guessing that the battery is not being charged for some reason. Any help and ideas would be appreciated.
    thanks

This is EXACTLY what happened to my 07' 2 weeks ago. I also commute 5 days a week but it would only last 2 days without being on the charger. Results: bad stator, bad rectifier and toasted brand new battery. $926!! If I had more time I would have installed the parts myself and saved $350 but I needed the bike back quickly.

Here is the link you need to follow, specifically post #9. Before you do any of these tests, though, you need to have a fully charged battery that you know is in good working order; meaning, its been fully charged and load tested. You can't perform these tests without a battery in good shape, or your results may be skewed.

Go through everything listed in that link and post back your results.

And get rid of the connector and solder and heatshrink the wires, everybody seems to wait till they have burnt everything up and costing them hundreds of dollars before they wake up and listen

I'm going to go out on a limb and say i need a new stator. No readings at all on the pin to pin AC test and the continuity test was not infinite. I was getting readings of .4 then to zero pin to ground. I think im going with the Electrosport at $159 unless someone has a better idea. Thanks for the help.

If the stator is producing no volts AC - then it is almost certainly dead - but this can be confirmed very easily by removing the stator cover (you will need to remove it anyway to fit a replacement and will probably need a new cover gasket). Once you remove the cover you will probably find segments of the stator are deep brown colour with a distinct smell of burnt electrical windings - you will not be the first!

So once you confirm the stator is dead, the next decision is what to do next? The options are to repair or replace.

Repair will probably be the cheapest but possibly slowest solution. If you are lucky enough to have a firm equipped to rewind electrical motors in your area - they should be able to rewind your OEM stator to as new state. I found a firm over here, who were able to rewind my burnt out stator in 3 days at just 75 euro - which is a fraction of the cost of a new replacement. As for Electrosport, you might want to read posts 39 and 40 on this thread :-

The downside of a stator failure is it can have inflicted damage on the RR, battery and loom. Have you checked the RR-Stator connector for melting damage? If you need to buy replacement parts then, if OEM is too costly, I suggest you check out http://www.roadstercycle.com/

Let us know how you get on.

Im now half way through my upgrade to the mosfet and am stumped about how to tie into the original 5 pin plug that plugged into the OEM R/r. Apparently this plug powers other circuits, so if i don't connect it im not going to get power to all the circuits that need it. Am i just so clueless that im missing something that everyone else knows?
