Stator and Reg/Rec now what?

2000 vfr800 - Battery draining while operating.

Replaced Reg/Rec first step primarily because everyone has. Then replaced Stator - it was noticeably burnt. No burning on Reg or Stat wires. Battery still being drained.

Battery holds trickle charge. Highest reading at battery is 12.1 v with some rpm. Short ride and let idle up to temp, battery too low to start.

Is there a sticky for this battery (pun intended) of tests for people who refuse to search?

 

check plugs between r/r and stator and main plug on starter rely for signs of melting or burning.
