So i go out to start my bike (86 vf 500) and the starter turns over for about .5 seconds then it soulds like the engine locks up. I thought it was the starter but once I got a jump and tried it the starter wants to turn but it just keeps making a klinking noise until i move the bike in gear little and the it will turn over and the start works fine. I dont know what the problems is if the bendix inside the starter is not working right or what but I freaked out cause I thought the motor seized up!any help would be great and where I could get a replacement part to would be awesome.

Possible cause of locked engine on your bike is fuel leakage through carb and petcock filling a cylinder.

Or this may be a failing starter clutch; there is no "Bendix."

It is the starter clutch I would bet. Search this forum for starter clutch and you will find your answer.
