My starter was slow and weak spinning. I ordered a rebuild kit that came with all the necessary components. This kit was specific to the bike. The bearing that goes over the splined end does not fit.....it is too small. Tried lightly tapping but still no go. The old one came off with the cover. No real resistance to speak of. Anyone know where to get the right bearing? Or a part number for such?

See if there is a number printed (or etched) on the side of the bearing. That number can be crossed referenced on a number of sites. If no number, you can always measure it with a caliper and use those dimensions to find what you're looking for.

Here are a couple of places you can look for your bearing.
