I just picked up a mint 1999 VFR800, and I need to get an exhaust for it. I have been looking at the Akrapovic low-mount slip on which I can only find through overseas distributors. I also see Staintune's are sold out of Australia. Where in the U.S. or what distributors can I order either of these brands for my bike?

    Thanks in advance.

Well tell me where I can get a new Akrapovic exhaust then, b/c no dealers want to help get me one, nor can they find the correct part number for the Titanium model. I even emailed Akrapovic themselves, but I have never heard back from them. Please help on the Akrapovic, otherwise I guess I better just get the high-mount Staintune, but I really want the Akrapovic though.

I looked in both of those catalogs, and I can't find a part number or any type of exhaust for our 99 VFR's. Do you guys see it somewhere, b/c I searched for a while and I don't see it.

Looks like they vfr model is not in the catalog any more, because Akrapovič exhaust was made only for 5th gen. VFR,so the last model year is 2001,but anyway I think it is still available.
The pipe looks like one in photo at bottom of the page,if that is helpful....

I give up. I contact partsunlimited, and they can't find the exhaust b/c they need a part number for the carbon or in my case titanium. I am losing my mind trying to find this, but I guess i will just get the Staintune hi-mount.

I have been exhaust shopping and found that Staintune's for the 5th gen are on backorder. StarCycle told me that they should be available at the end of September. They quoted me the best price I have found, so you may want to contact them. LINK--> StarCycle, USA

That's what Starcycle told me as well. But when I called Helmethead.com, they told me 5 days drop shipped to my door. I think they were just blowing smoke up my arsh just to get me to place the order with them.

Well screw it. I just ordered the Staintune low-mount version b/c I need to run soft Cortech saddlebags. I ordered it through Motorsports Network, and their communication has been great. I can't wait until I get my new exhaust in less than 1 week I have been told.:ncb:

You answered your own question before I had a chance to answer it. You are correct, if you ever intend to have soft bags on your 5th gen, then low mount is the only way to go. I think some hard bags may fit with some of the high mounts but I'm not sure I'd want a hot muffler 3/4" from a plastic piece of luggage.

I have a low mount Staintune & trust me when I tell you this, it sounds better than Acropovic.

    KC-10 FE out...

    Thanks KC-10.

I am trying to get this bike back to mint mechanically, and exhaust is just another piece of the puzzle. I just ripped the entire rear of the bike off, and now I am cleaning the swingarm, removing sprockets, chain, etc. The bike is mint, but nobody ever kept up with maintenance on it.

I need to get this all done before I deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan, and I am sure I will get it done right before I leave and I won't even have a chance to enjoy the damn bike until I get back..
