    MY favorite appearance of a squirrel in a Hollywood movie was the scene in "It's A Wonderful Life" where a despairing Uncle Billy's pet squirrel ( Sciurus Carolinensis) jumps up on his shoulder in a gesture of friendship and support......remember ??

    Last fall when I was elk hunting, the squirrels saved me from a mountain lion attack. Was in a ground blind watching a water hole and cow calling. All of a sudden every squirrel in the woods starting going banannas (or nuts). I looked around to see wtf was going on, and here was an 80lb cat about 15yards away coming straight at me. Drew the sidearm and put a warning shot between it's paws. We exchanged a few words and another warning shot before she and her 100lb partner decided to circle around the water hole and come up behind me. I grabbed my stuff and got out of there but I managed to snag a camera phone pic during the standoff while I was pointing .40 at her and another pic of the game trail the next day where they followed me.

    Not related to the movie, but I thought it was an interesting sort-of squirrel story just the same
