The dude at the shop recommended that i Gain only one tooth on the front sprocket and Lose one on the rear.

what would you do. My goal is to gain as much gas mileage as possible. 3 to 5 mpg more can make a difference.

What tooth configuration should i get for my purpose.

i dont know if i will want to. for one itl cost 90 bucks to do it. also for some reason it seems that my bike has much more power. i dotn know if somethign was cloged or what. i can do wheelies easier, i feel much more of a pull when i take off.
    :) i like it.

I did a two higher sprocket on my YZF600R- but not for gas mileage, to lower RPM's during highway cruising (bars would buzz). I got what I wanted and the bars stopped buzzing, and my gas mileage raised too. Based on your statements though, once you make those changes kiss the wheelies good bye, you'll burn up your clutch and kill your chain even faster. The power that you bike has won't diminish, you'll just have to be in a lower gear to use it and learn to adapt to the different power to speed curve.

what kind of gas mileage did you get?
im starting to lean tward leaving it the way it is. especially since it seems that i have more power today. somethign must have got cleaned out or something. also i dont think 90 bucks is worth only a few mpg.

weather it is extra power or my skills getting better it does seem to be running much better though, more power. i just hope i can stay off the gas enough to not kill the mileage.

The cheapest bang for your buck on sprockets is to do the front sprocket only. On mine the front was only around 25 bucks from Sprocket Specialists on thier website. I would just go up 2 teethon your front sprocket if you are looking for an increase in milage, however it will seem as though your bike has lost some power, but this is only because of the re-gearing. Depending on what year yours is, you may have to also get a speedo healer to compensate for the difference. Your speedo will read slower than what you would actually be doing. So if you don't fix it you could find yourself getting a speeding ticket by accident.

2 teeth up? Not recommended IMO.....Thats like 5/6 down on the rear. Plus the old chain would wear out even quicker with the different size sprocket. 1 up would be plenty.

Regarding your 2 down on the front sprocket, other than power wheelies, its prolly slower than stock altho it may seem faster because it revs faster. I've tried 1 tooth down and yea, it felt faster but after I tried a roll-on with a stock CBR600 before and after, the end result was worse after the sprocket change.
I've tried this before on my GSXR1100 and a roll-on with another older GSXR resulted in the stock configuration was the fastest.....the same as the VFR.

Not to mention the accelerated wear you're getting on that chain.

I only suggusted two up for milage, and it would actually be easier on the chain because of it not being as tight of a radius to go around and the gearing difference would make it impossible to wheelie so if it where me I wouldn't be tempted to even try. Yes going down 2 teeth like I've done will wear out the chain more especially cause of the wheelies, and the tighter radius for the chain to go around. But if it you want milage but don't want to pay for a rear sprocket, then the front would be cheapest, yes it would be much more drastic than doing the rear, but its cheap!
