    Hello,

I just picked up my 2002 Interceptor last weekend. Riding on the freeway at an indicated 75 mph left me being passed several times, despite the posted 70 mph limit.

My seat-of-the-pants feel is that the speedometer isn't very accurate. I think I even remember a magazine article or two from 2002, when they reviewed the then-new VFR, that the speedometer was overly optimistic.

Can anybody comment on the accuracy of the VFR speedometer, and is there any way to fix it?

    Thanks!!

    -Ryan

You can correct the factory default speedometer error and any gearing changes with a SpeedoHealer. Their documentation indicates that the 6th Gen has a 7.7% factory error. I installed one on my bike and with a +2 gearing change on the rear and going with a 5% factory error, it calculated a 10.4% total error. It costs around $95, but is worth it.

They are all wacko..almost very bike I ever owned was off 5-7% .. my early 80's models are the closest..my 05 vfr runs about 5% off.......I dont care anyway..cheap way to make me think im going faster!!!

I did recalibrate one once and it was meaningless waste of time and money cause I still went speed I wanted anyway....

.....I go whatever I feel I can get away with or flow with the fast traffic..I usually go by the tach anyway as I hate that goofy lcd speedo flipping changing thing anyway....:)

Geeze , more I think of it. dump the speedo and give me 2 tachs!!!!

In my VERY limited experience, motorcycle speedos are usually "optimistic". On my machine, it displays as much as 10% higher than actual speed. :blah: This is actually kinda cool cuz up in here on the frozen zone north of the 49th, I can legally go 110 kilometers per hour. So even tho my speedo shows 121 KPH, I'm still at the limit.

I know I'm just fooling myself, but it's amazing what fools will do!

Hi guys, since the speedo is over-reading, does it mean the odometer has a corresponding error as well? Do we minus 10% off too?

Nope, 5-7% speedo error is standard for pretty much every vehicle on the road. It's intended to make people think they're going faster but not get ticketed; the odometer should be pretty much spot on. So, I'm assuming this speedo-correcting gadget is made to not screw up the accuracy of the odometer...?

My understanding is that both the speedometer and the odometer are affected equally by the speedometer error. They both get their readings from the same speed sensor.
