So, I bought this bike a while back CHEEP, but needing some work (mostly cosmetic).

Mechanically it's very sound now, but a coupla minor things still need fixin'.

The speedometer & odometer do not work.

In the old days a broken cable was the likely culprit and an easy fix, but nowadays newfangled technology uses electrickery and little wires and such.:frown:

I noticed a little electronic sensor/sending-unit mounted at the countershaft sprocket, with a little drive socket for the sprocket retaining bolt head.
I removed it when I replaced the chain and sprockets and lubed it a bit, to no avail.:pout:

    - Anyone know of any incidence of failure in these doohickeys?
    - Can it be tested for output?
    - Will a sending-unit from other MY VFRs (or other Honda models) fit?
    - Anyone live near me that could let me swap 'em out to check?

    - Any other likely (known) cause for speedo/odo malfunction?

I have a wireless bicycle speedo I could use from one of my MTB's, but I'd really prefer to fix it right, and also have an odo to track oil changes, etc.
