I have a CB550K and it has 10 years on my VF700F, but I feel like I am going faster on my CB?

Now I have put some blood an sweat in my CB: CR carbs, Kerker exhaust, and whatnot. I want to believe that ten years of R&D and 150 extra cc's could produce more power than a redneck in a garage with a mig and a set of craftsmen wrenches.

My buddy keeps telling me, "You've never seen inside that M@(#$ F*#@#, you don't know if it has been bored and stroked like hell with oversized valves" (in refference to the CB550).

The VF700F also has a lot of power draining things, but they make the VF nicer. Stuff like the water pump, bigger gen set, and beefier frame.

Of course there is the possibility that I just FEEL like I am going faster cause the CB has been "coxed" to go faster and this one is natural.

ANYWAY My question is what is the 0-60 and 0-100 times I should be seeing on a GEN 1 VF700F?
    No fish stories!

NO idea on the speed times, but it may not be your imagination.

I have a 84 Ninja 900 I've been working on and it runs (not well) but well enough that I can say it much faster than the 97 VFR I ride. People automatically say "Yeah its a 900 vs. a 750". True, but its not a little faster in a straight line, its ALOT faster. That old NInja is like riding a ACME rocket like Wiley Coyote.

I haven't opened the engine yet, but we think it may be 'work' had been done by the original owner. I know the timing was advanced, hotter coils and it was jetted. To what? I don't know. Stage 3 was a popular mod to do.

Anyway your 550 could be hotter off the line.

Take em to your local drag strip and see what results you can get.

I have a 79 BMW that is faster 0-60 than my 750VFR. Five grand in the engine, four valve heads and 40mm Mikuni flatslides will do that. Is there a downside? Yep.. the Beemer ain't all that reliable.

Folks I know that build hot engines tell me that horsepower gains are easy. The smart guys go for the non-DNF mills.

Well I took the CB out and really stuck her with the spurs and watched the speedo. I think they are about the same, but the CB has a shorter transmission acording to the shop manual (only 2.0 reduction, 2.0 primary and .9 ratio in fith; the VF700F has 2.588 final, 2.152 primary and a 1.074 ratio in fith)

But taking all of my toys out and clocking them isn't a bad idea.
