Anyone 6th Gen owners change or inspect their spark plugs yet? Apparently they are recessed about 4-5 inches below the top of the cylinder, the owners manual says to remove the rear cylinder plugs just raise the tank. That distance doesn't seem enough to remove the long coils. Also does your tool kit come with a plug tool? I couldn't find it. Seems like a real pain just to inspect the plugs!
Changing the plugs on my '02 VFR turned out to be much easier than it sounds from reading the service manual. Note: I did not have to remove the side cowls. First remove the ignition coil connector plug and then the bolt that fastens the direct ignition coil. The ignition coil and spark plug boot should slide out easily. For the rear cylinders, I propped the tank up using a short piece of 2x4 on edge. the supplied tool is a bit flimsy (wobbly) if you have much fuel in the tank. there was plenty of room to slide out the coils and change the plugs. Use the spark plug wrench from the tool kit, its a good fit. I used a socket wrench on the top end. the whole process took less than an hour. It generally took me twice as long to change the plugs on my '86 VF500! Stick with Iridiums Good Luck, GISRider
