    Okay so here we are with a new VFRworld at our finger tips....some of you guys are a little confused about how the Chat works so here is what I have figured out and been shown..

    The chat as to my understanding is quicker than it used to be.. to me it isn't any different as of right now we don't have the colored text options that most of us like...I was informed by the powers that be that the old chat program was not compatiable with the new software so it went bye bye.......tht being said if any of you guys out there can write code for an awesome chat feel free .

    While in the chat you can send "secret messages" to someone else by either typing /pm userename message.... or just click on their name....its quicker

    if you want to private message someone jsut click on the "private messages" in the upper left then follow directions.

    this site is pretty user friendly it is just gonna take some time for folks to get used to..

    also if you don't want to see the chat you can close it by clicking om the little arrow ion the upper right corner of the chat window( next to the small + - signs.. this will close the chat and you don't have to look at it..

    here's the deal with chat. I have done quite a bit of looking around and the problem is this: VFRworld has a chatbox on every page pretty much. As long as we are running it like that, it wi be slow. At any given time we have 20-100 users online and doing the chat that way means it's loading for nearly every person.. Now, we have a couple options, there is flashchat like we used to run that allows multiple chatrooms and such but is a link from the community page. The advantage is that is decreases the load as not everyone is getting the chatbox. The disadvantage is that you can't glance up from a message thread and see who's in the chat room. I prefer it with it's own room, but I was in the minority, and that version of chat didn't get nearly the traffic. There is also a chat prg that uses irc so you can use any irc commands which adds lots of features...If we were to hook it up that way, I think you can even chat from an irc chat client and just go into whatever room you want including a 'vfrworld' room if we had one.
