So some of you know from my build thread that I am doing an endurance long weekend I rode down from Philly area to ATL, area and I'm staying with a buddy in Asheville NC. before leaving I did a bunch of maintinance and there are some things that I am noticing.

1 i'm getting a vibration between 1000 and 1500 rpm thats not really noticable but like I said I've spent alot of time with it and I'm curious if this is normal or maybe something I should look into, above 2K rpms it smooths out.

2 Few weeks ago I replaced the chain and sprockets with a -1 up front and +4 in the rear (fun combination, but probably not a good combination before doing a 2000+ mile ride as my mpg's are down. 42mpg on the way down, wasn't bad for doing 80ish the entire way (bike showed about 100mph the entire way) but today I wiped down the chain and lubed it I and after a quick little jaunt I'm finding aluminum shavings, the sprockets are installed correctly and the chain is tightened correctly. I took the sprocket cover off and everything looks good other then I need to replace that gasket and the rear looks good too. I'm thinking that the chain wax I used just stuck to everything and flung it all off from when I first installed the chain and didn't tighten it for about 500-600 miles, does that sound like a possibility?

3 After this ride I'm going to do valves and carb sync but I couldn't for the life of me get the tank off. is there some trick I took the bolt off (where the seat mounts) disconnected everything and tried to slide it back but I couldn't I'm really at an impass here and couldn't figure it out.

4 Do our bikes just run cool? I'm now running naked but even before I took the fairings off I don't think I once have really seen the fan come on other then when stuck in traffic?

5 I thought the redline on our bikes was 11500, but mine seems to go to 12500.

I'm sure these are some things I've never really noticed before but when you put 1300 miles on a bike in 2 days you tend to notice little things.

#1 Carb synch and mixture screw optimization might cure it. Please don't ever accelerate the engine hard in any gear above first at any rpm below about 2200, as it hates to be lugged at low rpms except at small throttle openings and may make bad noises. :grumpy:

#3 Use a thin screwdriver to push the sleeve in the bolt hole back or forth until it centralizes and releases the tank. Even 1mm left or right of the proper position will hold the tank. :biggrin-new:

#4 No, your thermostat is bad or possibly a bad connection or coolant is too low. On the gauge, optimum temp is just above halfway between c and half-scale. By the time it reaches anything much over 3/4 scale, the fan should kick on. :courage:

The 4th gens do run cold. It has been discussed and some have tried new stats, with no change. Mine has always been that way, with no ill effects.
