Planning a ride with VFRMAN44 in Malibu this Saturday. Anyone interested in joining? I'll be posting anticipated route and meeting times later today. Most likely it will be early morning start to avoid the inevitable crowds. It is supposed to be VERY warm this weekend (High 70's, low 80's), so all the fair weather riders will most likely come out of the wood work!

No takers? VFRMAN44 had to bow out so looks like I'll be flying solo. If no one else is interested then I'll probably do an ad-hock route. Either way I'll be leaving the OC at 7:30AM. Most likely hitting PCH right at the 10 and head up the coast and play it by ear. Based on today's temps, I'll have to break out the summer suit!

Gonna be heading to the Salton Sea and maybe box canyon then over to Bombay Beach and back on S2. Maybe mix it up a bit from that.

    Woot!

Well, now that you mention it. I had a good ride but my buddy Michael has had better days I'm sure. Coming down Latigo Cyn. (From Kanan to PCH) Michael suffered a low side and his Aprillia RSV1000 was taken out of commission. Basically it ended up hitting the guard rail and spinning around destroying the upper fairing and gauge cluster mounts. Took off his left foot peg and bent his shifter to the point of un-usability, at least there on the road. We had to call in a tow truck to haul it back to Huntington Beach! The bummer too was that this was our last road before we were headed home, and he was doing great up until that point. Not sure if it was pilot error, road surface, or his tires just gave way? Unfortunately, his GoPro was in "snapshot" mode so we do not have any "motion" video and/or sound to reconstruct what happened. Since I was in front of him, my camera won't be of any help either. Here's a snapshot from my camera as I was coming back to see why he wasn't right behind me.

Although they were kind of a nuisance when in bunches yesterday, some bicyclist were right there when this happened and came to his aid almost immediately. As far as his outcome, he only suffered some minor road rash on his left leg, just above the boot and below his knee. His A* jacket, Dainese boots/gloves and Scorpion helmet all did their job, unfortunately he was wearing denim jeans (non Kevlar) hence his road rash. He's a decent rider and we've been on Latigo a few times in both directions, so not sure what to blame. I do know that he's definitely going to be saving up for better riding pants, once his bike is back in order. ATGATT for me, especially when riding these canyon roads, too many variables to take any chances. Oh, and yes I did have to break out the summer suit, thank god for perforated leathers, it was quite warm yesterday!

Sorry to hear about the crash. I hope Michael recovers both physically and especially mentaly. Those first crashes can sometimes be hard to shake off the psyche.

suffered. I have allready had the years and rides hangin out there and this is the second crash I have heard about in one day...to many things can happen on public roads be it a brain fart or road gravel....I have decided even at my pace ...I have WAYto much to loose...been there and survived.. time to enjoy and pull back a smig.... love railin but ya never know whats around the next bend. Ya know it happens to everyone sooner or later.....mentally it effected every left turn for me even to this day. Sorry fer the ramblin on JMO

Wow. Give Michael our best and hopes for speedy and full recovery. Then slap him for fucking up a perfectly good bike! I headed out to join you today for a ride but got stuck in a traffic circle for hours......never made it there.

I think it's safe to say that Michael is probably slapping himself harder than anyone!

As me and OOTVS were debating the other day, sometimes shit just happens. I would guess that 60% of the time the rider is in control of his/her destiny and risk. But that last remaining 40% is up to circumstance and beyond one's control. Last time I lowsided, I was in total control up until the moment my front end lost traction. Then I was sliding on the ground wondering WTF happened? On that same corner, several riders going faster than me went through just moments before I did and had no issues. So I'm still scratching my head over that to this day.
