Has anybody replace the slow idle wax assembly 2006-16044-mcw-003, this part controls the idle speed. I think mine might be defective as I turn the black adj knob-doesn't work and my bike idles way too low warmed up-500-900rpm, the tach should read around 1400-its off at least 200rpm. This part is in the throttle assembly. How hard of a job is this? Or is something else I could try to fix it? I think its kind of early for this part to fail-only 8900 miles.:ballchain:

I've not had to replace the FIWU but I have had to sync starter valves a few times. It will idle much better if you've not done it before. Also, I've never been able to turn the idle adjustment with my bare hands... I've always had to use a screwdriver on it. Are you sure it is actually adjusting or is the black knob just rotating like it is stripped out?

I've not replaced the unit but it shouldn't be too hard of a job. Tank has to go up and airbox has to come off. It is a bit of a tight area to work in but after that it is just a few screws and a linkage I believe.

Sounds like you need to get your idle screw working first.

I never bring anything to a dealer- I would rather break it myself. I raise gas tank and see if the cable is kinked or why the knob do not work. I did fix the fuse and tag issue.

My adjustment cable got tough to turn. Lube it with a little WD- 40 . After a day or so it will losen up. Then keep it lubed.

Everything needs proper maintainence. Even a vaccume cleaner will stop if you don't clean the innards and use a little lube here and there.

I try wd specialist rust release on knob, I soaked the crap out of it with the rust release WD specialist. Let it soak in over night, I lift up gas tank tomorrow and check air box and use some gun mount cleaner and more WD specialist-then add some 91 gas and go ride it, going to be very hot tomorrow. I did put some fresh GM anti-freeze in it. My spark plugs should be still ok with 8900 miles, perhaps its best to do just a little maintenance at a time. I would not think the idle wax unit is bad after only 8900 miles, it has no wax in it-that part is over $50 and pain in ass to replace. and what about starter valves-another nightmare to adj. I have new EBC extreme brake pads to put in too-going to add speed bleeders to that project, I will need to really clean the rotors real good when pads go on.

16044-mcw-003 referred to is the unit that mechanically raises the cold idle speed at start up. This unit mechanically opens up the starter valves and the amount opened depends on ambient temperature. The unit has engine coolant circulating through it and as the engine coolant increases in temp, it causes the wax unit to back off till it completely goes out of circuit and the 'warm' idle speed defaults to that set by the black knob adjuster. As such, as your warm idle speed is low, you need to sort out the the black adjuster knob cable etc
