So I've crafted up a pair of 2 into 1 slip-on mufflers for my '87 VFR700. Header pipes are stock, and I've bumped the pilot jets up to size 40's and backed the mixtures screws out 2.5 turns each. Otherwise, bike is stock. The OEM mufflers had a cross-over tube connecting them. How many of you would recommend retaining a cross-tube, and how many would stick with the 2 unconnected pipes? Supporting arguments appreciated. Thanks.
My only supporting evidence is Honda decided to spend more money manufacturing the exhaust after the headers with a cross over for a reason, likely a smoother power curve. Kerker slipons made for that model had you cut off the mufflers and use the stock rear sections. I'm sure that was mostly just to make their kit easier and cheaper for them to produce, but they sure work and sound great. I have some Yosh slipons, 2-1 on each side with no crossover, for the 86 I have not installed yet, so I can't give a back to back comparison / review. But I'll almost guarantee the Kerkers will have better power curve and fewer / less prevalent flat spots. I also don't think I would re-invent your creations if you are happy with them. Pics?
