My VFR800Fi, purchased in early June this year, from a gent in Nashville, Tn.
    Great condition, 7K miles.

Got it home, Cincinnati, Oh., and started some general maintenance to bring the bike to a known condition.
    Change oil & filter.
Drain & flush coolant, refill with Hondaline 50/50.
Fix leak in clutch master cylinder, bleed system.

As I prepared to button it up, noticed left headlight appeared to be out.
Got replacement, H4 style lamp, pulled front fairing to replace lamp.

Got the shock of my life, and at my age (80) that takes some doing.
The main 3-pole connector for an H4 lamp feeds into a female 3-pole connector which in turn feeds to the headlight.
Built on an H4 size plate are two lamps. One 40 watt (2-wire) bulb, with a smaller (8-10 watt) lamp next to the large lamp. A small reflector between the two lamps, all on the same H4 size base,
5-wires leave this assembly, via 4 small connectors to rejoin the main harness.
This entire assembly appears to be a single manufactured "part". Lamp connections are soldered.
    Truly an "inseparable assembly".

I find nothing like this in any parts assembly data.
And obviously, my wiring diagram does not indicate this. I'll put it back in service, but I would sure like to know where to go for replacement parts and where to get a wiring diagram. I'm thinking Canadiam or UK model.
    Help.

I believe you can find out if the bike is for US market by using your VIN numbers
If your 2000 Vfr is yellow then it should have dual lo/hi

VN JH2RC46057YM200073. And yes, it is yellow (that takes some getting used to).

Actually, I'm only 79 1/2 but that doesn't quite roll off the tongue.

And a TWO WIRE lamp cannot be dual beam.

    SW Pos Left Right

    High ON ON

    Low Off ON

Right side headlight is always LOW.

Your head light issue seem to be strange, can you post some picture of the wire to your head light? If not I hope someone with the fifth gen will chimp in and solve this mystery. Safe riding :vtr2:

:welcome: to the site and congrats on still riding  Both my lights are on all the time both high beam or both low beam. I bought it brand new in 2000. I have installed H4 bulbs, just had to bend the two lower tabs. Yellow was the US color in 2000 .... but something is wonky with the lights in yours. Are your gauges in MPH or KPH? Any chance it was repainted?

Well, took this snake nest of wiring into the local Honda dealer this morning, fully prepared to gine'em hell.
Three mechanics recognised it immediately. It's not a Honda pert. It's a "high performance" user upgrade.
It is a high intensity discharge (zenon) lamp, which means I have a ballast/igniter somewhere buried on the front fairing.
To which I can only reply......HORSE HOCKEY !
If I wanted high performance lighting I'd use Sylvanis Silverstars. Had them on my Burgman 400, for 8-years.
I'm assured that if I remove the after market assemblies, H4's will drop in and work as Honda intended, and as I expected.
I'm a tourist. Just get me on the road, I have places to go (on my yellow VFR).

    Welcome aboard
Glad you got it sorted out

Enjoy your ride. The yellow does take some time getting used to. I would not trade mine for anything, though.

Not true. To fit a standard H4 bulb you need to cut two tabs off it.
