Sidestand cut out problem!

Biike : VFR750 FV, 1995.

4.30am.....Never a good time to have bike problems!!

This morning I cranked the Viffer up with full choke, and slipped her in to 1st - Without kicking the sidestand up. (I do this quite often cos I've got a 2nd bike without a sidestand cutout - DAAAAaargh!!). Engine cut out (as you'd expect). Tried to restart, and starter motor sounded ragged as hell and intermittent rather than smooth.

I rode round to the driveway and decided to turn the power off and check it'd re-start (don't want to get stranded at work later). Wouldn't restart though - starter motor didn't even turn. Tried it several times. Sidestand was up and bike in neutral.

So I had to come to work on the 2nd bike.

Sat here at my desk scratching my head! Is it a started switch probl? Starter motor? or worse??

Still stratching!! Any thoughts or experience from you would be GREAT!
