Should my bike heat up at full throttle?

ok so i have a 1984 vf500 and when i give it full throttle it heats up maybe 1/16" to 1/8" then cools back down. any ideas?

 

just a shot in the dark here, your temp sensor could be goin out.

 

Of course it gets hot at full throttle!!! Cheeeesssshhhh!!!!

Don't you have some cleaning t do?

 

how quickly is the needle responding?

 

ok so did some more riding and now when it heats up an 1/8" it stays there and gets hotter when just idleing with the fan on. I would say right after i hit redline in the gear then let it back down to like 4k it starts to move and moves 1/8" in like 10 or 15 secs

 

anyone know where to get a temp switch?

temp guage?
radiator fan switch sensor ?

the one that controls what my gauge says? and could i maybe upgrade to one that reads actual numbers instead of a scale

 

Yes that is possible.I did it on my bike.
The temp sensor is mounted on the thermostat housing.
The temp sending unit is dedicated to the guage. They are a set.

When first turned on it reads LO then after a couple minutes it reads temp numbers.

 

where did you find this at and how did you install it?

 

You put stress on the engine and it heats up a little, cools down when you relieve the stress. Heats up at idle, cools down on the move. I don't see a problem. This is exactly how this bike is supposed to function. However, your 500 will be blowing it's brains out soon if you redline it. I love the 500, but it's got a pretty fragile engine in it.
