I just removed the front wheel on my 6th Gen becuase tomorrow I'm putting on a new tire.
I'm not a seasoned rider as some on here on the board so my question is should I grease the spacers and the axle bolt when putting the wheel back on? If I do, what grease should I use?

    Thanks.

The wheel bearings are shielded so you really can't get any grease into the balls very easily. You can pry off the shield and try to get it back on after you tried to put some grease in, but personally I'd check them and if they were smooth I wouldn't mess with then. A little anti-seize on the axle and call it good.

Yes, the axle should have wheel bearing grease applied, but not on the bolt/nut. Should use a torque wrench when tightening unless you're very familiar with the hand/arm/body forces needed for proper installation. Pump up the front brake after wheel is mounted.

I just thought about it, but on the 5th gen you need to check the clearance of the disk/rotor because they tend to be pretty close. I assume the 6th is the same?

Always grease your axle Kerbster, its just politically correct in this day and age. Don't go crazy with the grease, and don't get Midieval on those pinch bolts either...Cheers

I always clean and grease the axle and spacers. I also put a thn layer over the bearng shield mostly as a water repellant since here is a shield there aleady.

I have my wheels off several times a year for tire changes and such.

I use a 10oz finish hammer to torque the small pinch bolts then a 20oz framing hammer for the larger axle nut.

I have a big tub of red colored GM suspension grease that I put a thin coat on the axle with.
It's always more work getting a rod in a hole without some lube.

You can aslo use a lil sweet talkin' and ply with a lil alcohol. If you do this early enough in the process you may need a little less lube to get to get the rod in the hole.
