my 03 FVR has a useful farkle added by the prior owner; a steering stem mounted 12 V power plug (for keeping Batt charged, power accessory, etc) problem is I shorted it in a 1-1000 event (the metal bridge from my glasses broke and dropped from standing hieght and landed dead center inside the plug, in the 2 seconds the plug cover was up while removing the Batt. tedner)- It appears the wiring for the plug snakes down the hollow steering shaft and heads off to ? (havent followed it yet) what I was wondering was for anyone who may have one of these, is there an in-line fuse below the plug (which will require removal of the head nut and plug but thats NBD) or should I chase the wire towards its connecting source (which means drain the fuel tank and go looking) any helpful tips would be appreciated( other then get conntact lens...)
On your 2003, you can lift the tank without draining. With the seat off, (necessary to lift tank), and the seat raised, you should be able to trace the wiring. If the PO tied into a wire near the socket location, it might be a little more difficult to get to. I wired mine direct to the battery with an inline fuse. If he did the same, replacing the fuse should put you back in business.
+1 --- A quick check that might work out.... Find your battery and see if there is an aftermarket fuse box in sight. If you have a blown fuse there, most likely you could replace the fuse in it and your good to go.
