Hey guys just was gonna ask for a couple of tips. I have the 750 and for what ever reason 1-2nd gear is really clunky it feels like I am almost going through two shifts and once in awhile I completely miss this shift and end up in neutral if I rush it at all. Seems like on my bike I have to be very deliberate, clutch give shift lever alot of love "clunk" release and by the time I am done I look like a noob lol. I also notice that the VFRs revs drop fast. If I am in the higher gears I seem to leave the throttle cracked so that the revs dont fall off and end up matched when releasing the clutch. Is this ok. Any tips. I ride my DR650 all the time and it shifts fast clutch pop gear shifter release on my VFR it just seems much more involved? I have been riding bikes for years but this VFR is a different animal then my dual sport lol.

I am running Amsoil 10-40 Syn. Just have never had to even try on my other bikes seems like the VFR has to have a second to get shifted 1 to 2? I usually run her up to about 4K in first, clutch and close throttle at same time, shift....see neutral light shift again lol, release clutch. Some times when I roll off the throttle on the bike to shift I keep it cracked a tiny bit to help revs stay up. If this is wrong please tell me. My DR650 drives very smooth shifting like this but the VFR seems to have no inertia and falls to idle so quick lol. Darn race engines shooting through the revs lol! Most the time it shifts fine but once in awhile wrrrrrrr clutch WRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR clutch wrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr lol!

    Thanks!

Well technically you are shifting thru 2 gears, My first gen shifts a bit harder ( Have to be deliberate ) while she is cold, but once she is up to temp, she shifts smoothly.

Try putting pressure on the gear shift lever before you touch the clutch. It should go in smoothly, everyone hits a faulse nuetral every blue moon. Sometimes you hear a noise, other times you dont, the times I dont, I buy a lottery ticket. If I won, I still would keep my bikes. Very technical with lots of variables, sounds travel depending on wind, speed, traffic surrounding you, etc,,,you get the idea...I quick shift my bikes all the time on the lower gears, but dont confuse that with riding in TOO HIGH a gear. If I short shift at 5000 rpm to say, 4th gear for a two lane surface street that has a posted 45mph speed limit, fourth gear pulls nicely wihtout lugging the engine.

I lengthed my shift lever too along with the factory pro shift kit (stiffer spring and modified detent arm)

thats the lengthened gear shift lever. You can see where it contacted the frame on some low speed get offs compared to the older length. Bike is not a virgin to the tarmac.

Thanks for all the help! I actually watched a YouTube video but a Vblogger name RoadCraft Nottingham. About being very quick on closing the throttle and do every thing as one little motion. Seems to have helped!

How did you get the longer shift lever? Is the shift kit improver still around anywhere?

friend that was a master metal worker did it for me years ago. You can take it to a decent steel-shop and they can add a section of metal and smooth it out for you.

Far as the shift kit goes, Factory Pro Perfermance would be glad to sell you one of their Pro-Shift Kits. Its a bit of a bastard to install as me recolects...Firmed up the lever with the stiffer spring, detent arm has a ball-bearing wheel on it as apposed to a cheap lousy one from oem.

If you over think stuff, it will fuck you up too you know...Just relax and enjoy it...

Just another angle to look at, is all well with the hydraulics on your clutch? (apologies if your VFR has a cable clutch) My slave cylinder used to leak and when the level got low shifting would suffer.
