Hey, I am having a minor problem that seems to happen once or twice a ride. I will downshift slowly from 6th-1st and sometimes I get in nuetral and I cant get it out of nuetral. With several attempts It will finally shift into 1st gear. It is kind of embarrasing when you are at a stop light. It's not real bad now, but is it a small problem that is going to get worse? It is a 2000 model with 6400miles. No other problems with the bike.
Check the linkage to verify that it is within specs per a service manual. Occassionally both my VFR and RC-51 will do this but I simply apply downward pressure on the shifter while slowly releasing the clutch and it pops right into gear. I would suggest you try this if your bike does it only once in a while but if your are experiencing this often then you might have an actual issue. You may also want to verify that your engine oil is compatible with the "wet clutch" that your bike uses.
