On the left sidecover where the shift shaft goes into the block. That seal is leaking. I assume there is a bearing behind that.

Where would I find them? The fiches i look at dont seem to show it.

Also, anything I need to know special about doing the VF clutch. Done a couple bike clutches before.

It is on a bushing I think and just a new seal should do the trick, it is old. The clutch is run of the mill and should not be anything more than a simple repair.

Bike has 18K miles on it and the shaft has up and down play. Figured id replace it while I was in there doing the clutch. Any good places for parts?

I am dead wrong, looks like it is on a bearing per Bike Bandit. Pull it apart and inspect the bearing, you should be able to locate a new one at bearing shop. Kaman Industrial Technologies is who I go to for goofy bearings and have never let me down. You may find a better shaft if it is damaged on E-bay but a good machine shop will repair it for some beer. If not I have some guys that will do it for beer. Let me know.

Some 500's unfortunately develop a leak at the clutch pushrod oil seal.

In order to replace the seal the engine cases need to be split. As this is a major job a quick 'fix' has been developed.

This involves using a piece of shrink tubing placed over the section of the pushrod that runs through the oil seal. The shrink tubing will slightly increase the OD creating a tighter fit.

I've read that this works well but it should be considered as temporary fix only.

Hope this is of some help.
