Shark RSR2 helmet

I just received my new Shark RSR2 "Fujiwara" helmet purchased off of ebay. I had a KBC VR2 that worked well but wasn't of the greatest quality workmanship, in my opinion. The Shark RSR2 is a $625 helmet by MSRP and can typically be found throughout the internet for $525-$600. I "stole" mine, new in box, for $220. The can be found even cheaper ($160) if you have an XSmall head.

If you read the webbikeworld review on the helmet, they claim the helmet as their Helmet of the Year 2007 before even writing the rest of the article.

I am posting this to give a chronological account of my opinion on the helmet, hopefully giving good feedback to those interested in purchasing one.

Prepurchase:
Tons of info out there on the helmet. Most important stuff in summary:
1) One of very few helmets on the market with DOT, SNELL, and ECE-22/05 standards.

*the ECE is the best, required for MotoGP, World Superbike, and now most AMA. ECE standards test front, back, top, sides and mouth pieces; others only test top and sides. Also measures duration of stress period to riders head.

2) One of few (if not only) helmet with SNELL certification weighing under 4lbs. (1550g, exactly) This is due to a thicker shell required by most manufacturers to survive the puncture test.

3) Helmet is made of woven glass, carbon and aramid (considered the strongest fiber made today) making it incredibley strong and light.

4) Helmet is worn by multiple riders in professional races throughout the world; Miguel Duhammel for one.

4/22/08- Receipt of Helmet

Incredibly comfortable! Soft, microfiber like interior. Helmet fits snugger than most due to its race design.

Will update as ride time goes on.

I had a KBC and liked it but I had neck problems so at the dealers suggestion, went to the RSR2 as well. Different design though. What a difference in weight. Love the helmet. But I bought one a size too large. It broke in more than I thought and up here at $835. per, i don't know if I will get anther too soon. So long as I stay reasonable in speed, the helmet works just dandy. Crank it up thought and the helmet tends to blow back a bit unless i get into a deep tuck. I do find them to allow more wind noise in though, so ear plugs are worn often during the work commute.

The interchangeable breath shield is a God send for winter driving. The summer shield pulls out and is easily replaced with the winter that directs the breath directly out side vents. I am sure you are all aware of that but those reading this that don't have one may be interested in knowing.

 

Well folks. I got about 60,000 miles or so out of my Sharke. I can't say I have really had any difficulty with the helmet. The bottom edge on one side is starting to crack though. And it is leaking. The inner pads are worn to the point they need to be replaced. That has been like that for a while now however, I have had "NO" luck with after sale service from the people at Sharke. My e-mails to them have gone unanswered. I know that since the shell is starting to crack, the whole helmet needs replacing, but I was ready to replace the pads a year ago.

Was I happy with this helmet. Yes. WOuld I buy another one...No...in 84 font, bright red letters and all caps. I have ordered the Shoei X Twelve. ANd it just came in today.

 

They were blowing these out at Royal distributing in Ontario for $120.00...Of course they went fast.. I like them too. seem to be made really well.

I have owned:
Arai , Shoei and HJC and find them all about the same...Then again I have never tested a helmet in a crash so I will stick with the current shoei rf1000
