Does anyone know of any dealers in the NJ area that stock Shark helmets?

We're trying to find a new helmet for the Wife but can't find Shark in stock anywhere. They are pretty much they only brand she hasn't tried on yet.

    Thanks

Don't know if this is near you but Cycle Gear carries Shark helmets. I was looking at them in the Sacramento Store today.

It's not for me, it's for the Wife. She doesn't share my quite childish contempt for the french. All she cares is finding the helmet that fits her noggin the best. This, of course, is the correct way to select a helmet.

I didn't put this in the original post since I know people swear by Cycle Gear.

I PM'd a board member yesterday asking about Cycle Gear. He replied he'd never been there. I figured what they heck, how bad could it be? So, we took the trip to the Edison store today. I called them yesterday & asked if they had Shark in stock. The sales pinhead said they had all of them. I drove thru 1.5 hours of NJ traffic filled with NJ assholes to get there. Imagine my dismay when I discovered they had exactly 1 freaking Shark helmet in stock. To say I was dissapointed would be a collosal understatement. Their selection of EVERYTHING was lousy. The had nothing worth buying in any size. Then the sales pinhead tried to get me to buy a Shoei with a 7/07 date tag in it. The Edison store was a pathetic joke. If this is how good Cycle Gear is, I got no use for them. Extreme Machines in Millstone Township is twice the size with 3 times the selection & is half the distance.

The Cycle Gear store I go to takes up a whole(long)wall with helmets, of course people vary in any store. Wish I could find a bigger store with more gear, myself.

I would be surprised if Burger's carried Shark but I will be in there on Thursday dropping off my bike for warranty work. They were complete A-holes since I didnt buy the bike there but they are very close to me. If they dont fix it, I will need to find a better dealer in NJ.

I had some very unpleasant things happen to me a few times whilst in france. It has nothing to do with politics, just my personal experience.

I'm pretty sure Burger's doesn't carry them - was there three weeks ago looking for Sharks also. Freehold Honda Triumph had one RSR (I think) and I didn't ask if they had any others. Extreme Machines doesn't carry them nor does the Honda shop just north of the Cycle Gear store in Edison. Maybe Cherry Hill? I forget the name of the dealer there - I know they carry Honda and Suzuki - but have heard they stock a bunch of gear.

Let me know if you find a place that carries them.

After using up about 136 anytime minutes, I have come to the conclusion that exactly 2 places anywhere near me carry Shark helmets. That would be Extreme Machines in Millstone & Freehold Honda/Triumph in Freehold. Extreme had 1 in stock & Freehold had 3. Fortunately the ones in Freehold were the right size so the Wife was able to try on 2 different models, the RSI & RSX. They fit her just fine but she said the Arai Vector fits her the best so far.

Normally I would advise her to simply purchase the Arai & be done with it, but it kills me that Arai is now up to the $500 mark for what is considered the low tier of their race helmets. I emailed Arai North America & they replied their helmets rack & stack like so: Corsair is the top, followed by the Profile, then the Quantum & the Vector is the bottom of the heap. Mind you, this is only for their race helmets.

You know it's pretty sad when me, a life long Arai fan & wearer, is advising my own Wife to find some other brand that she can wear. I just kills me that a $500 helmet has inferior venting, no removeable interior & an antiquated shield system. I love my RX7 but once I factor in purchase price for a new Corsair V, it simply does not make sense for me to continue using Arai. I simply will not pay $900 for a helmet that offers no real advantages other than fit. Recently, some things have changed & those changes have presented me with the unique oppurtunity to purchase motorcycle supplies for significantly below retail. To put it in perspective, I can purchase a new (not closeout or last year model) X11 for less than $300 for graphics. The Corsair V would be nearly $670 from the same source. I will be switching to the X11 next year when new helmet time comes around. It's not as snuggly, comfy as the Corsair, but it is by no means uncomfortable either.

To wrap this up & before anyone gives me any crap, I am officially changing my opinion that Arai is the top helmet maker in the world. I still like the Corsair & it still fits me better than ANY helmet I've ever put my skull into, but it is quite simply not twice as good as the other helmets out there yet it costs twice (or 3X or 4X) as much. Sad but true.

now that you know what size you wife needs search online for a close out sale on Arai model, you should be able to locate one for a few hundred less.

IMO cycle grear ( well my local shop ) sucks thier prices are always 40-50 bucks higher then online prices and they really give you a hard time when you bring in print out of online price.

Odd, since I asked the Extreme woman upstairs if they had any and she told me they don't and didn't think anyone in the area carried them. That was a few weeks ago so maybe they ordered some. I'm heading out to Freehold tomorrow morning to get a filter and oil so I'll be able to check them out.

KC, general thoughts on the Sharks? I'm looking for something a little more quiet and with decent ventilation. Most of what I've read points to Shoei but my odd shaped noggin feels a little loose in the crown.

Shark seems to be on par with most of the higher end helmets. Absolutely no question, they DO NOT fit me so they aren't in the running for me. For a truely objective opinion, check out Web Bike World for a complete review of most of the Shark line up.

    1) Shark has the plushyest, snugglyest, comfyest interior I've ever seen. Arai is good but the Shark is better.

    2) The Shark shield removal is freaking awesome & simple to use. 10000000% better than the Arai system. The Bell Star was also in stock at Freehold Honda. It's official, the Bell Star is the hands down, no contest, knock out champion winner, world heavy weight champion easiest face shield removal system. There is NO WAY it could be easier unless a company finds a way to simply snap a shield on with no mechanism. As long as there is a mechanism, it doesn't get easier than the Bell Star.

    3) The vents seemed sub par on the two models I checked out, the RSI & RSX. I know for certain the Arai RX7 vents. When I coach in 95f weather, I sweat like a pig. As soon as I put on my Arai & start riding, my head starts to feel chilled from all the air moving thru the helmet. I simply don't see how the Shark could vent as much with less than half the vents. From what I could gather at the CA Super Bike School, the Shoei X11 is supposed to be the benchmark for venting. I'll find out around the Jan time frame when I buy one.

    4) The Sharks are lighter than the RX7 I wear.

    5) The finish & graphics look nicer on the Arai. Not saying the Shark is low quality, the Arai simply looks nicer.

    6) Both the RSI & RSX fit one complete size too large. A MD is like a large from most other companies. I wear a large in EVERY helmet I've ever tried on. Except for Shark, I wear a medium.

If it fits, I don't see how anyone could be dissapointed with a Shark helmet. When you consider they are a good deal cheaper than most high end helmets, you have a win - win situation.
