Self made License plate bracket (Vertical)

I hated the stock massive fender so the very first thing I did was chop it off and move the license plate.

The two laws I had to keep in mind were- 1) License plate has to be lit with its own light(s) and 2) it has to be clearly visible from behind the bike. My first choice was something along these lines...

The plate itself is to wide to fit between the tips of the stock cans so I recessed it in a little bit for clearance, unfortunately this was cutting it real close on rule #1 haha

After getting an "obstructed license plate" ticket on top of a speeding ticket (80mph on an Interstate! @&%!) I had to come up with something different that kept the plate visible but not hanging out behind the bike. I went out with a tape measure and took a few measurements and drafted this up...

It did not form as easily as I would have liked, but for now I used .063" 2024 T3 Aluminum because I could cut it on the squaring shear. I'll hopefully be rebuilding this in Ti once I get spun up on the power shear!!

Nowhere does it say that the plate cannot be vertical ;)
    Thanks for looking!

Here are some night shots of the lit bracket-

(The Tail light is covered with a bag for diffused lighting- it was burning out everything else in the picture)

WARNING, WARNING, WARNING. License plate bracket from Aluminum will fatigue itself in two right at the bend under the tail from vibration. Don't ask me how I know, and it will break off and get lost.

    Replace with SS sheet.

Otherwise, if the Establishment can live with a sideways plate, than OK.

I have my plate mounted indentical to you except with a different bracket. It is actually the support bracket that was behind the plastic part of the fender and works just fine. Last summer I did get pulled over by a Indiana State Police officer and received a written warning for having my license plate mounted sideways. He tried to site some bullshit law about the license plate cannot be mounted in such a way that it obstructs the ability for it to be read. I didn't argue with him till after I received the warning in my hand and he had gone over it with me. After his "lecture" and my questions, I replied back with "Well it sure didn't obstruct your ability to read my license plate and copy it down correctly on the warning sir..." He wasn't too happy as he walked away but knew there was nothing he could do to get me. Truth be told, he paced me for at least three miles before flipping his lights on and pulling me over. I knew he was trying to nail me for something and that was simply his reasoning to pull me over, run my plates, check my insurance, etc. I won... he lost.

Oh-so-nicely done. At that moment, he saw those same words being spoken in court by a lawyer, followed by "case dismissed".

I've been the victim of the BS Pullover before too. Jackasses. I got pulled going to work once for splitting lanes (legal only here in CA). I asked the cop who was on the watch back @ HQ, b/c he for sure will be getting a call from me here by the roadside the moment we're finished. Maybe HE could inform his officers on duty that splitting is legal here in CA, in case all of his officers had not heard.

I got thru the 4th degree license check/vehicle check/insurance check BS with only a little lip about the lane splitting, no ticket, but easily a 20-25 minute delay for work.

We finished, I called right from the spot, Sgt. apologized to me, saying he had some new officers out there and he would personally tell him it was legit. Also asked me to treat it as a learning experience for his officer, and asked I not make a federal case about it. I liked his demeanor and apology, so I agreed to let him treat it as such.

    Agreed Safetypro 10

This was a mockup of the design and I am temporarily using it, but once I get my hands on the power shear I will be making it again from SS or Ti
