Had my seat off, looked at the tank, saw a lot of gashes there. Turns out my seat has been recovered, and the person doing it used an "adequate" number of staples, some of them protruding a bit. These had worn through the tank paint, and were in the process of wearing through the steel underneath.

I put some gorilla tape over the staples, for the moment. Thought I'd warn people to look out for this.

On a separate subject, are any folks having trouble with floppy kickstands? The kickstand design on the 2nd gen bikes is pretty horrible. I'm wondering what people did to fix it, other than spending $120 on a replacement stand. I may go ahead and get a new one anyway, modifying the spring design so it does not wear the pivot down like this one did.

My 4G is doing the same thing to my tank, but it's seat has never been re-covered. The OEM honda seat is doing it, so this serves as a warning to other fellow 4G guys to check this area the next time you have your seat off.

I took some of the super thick paint protection film and pit it on the wear spots to prevent it from getting any worse.
