There are a few threads about this, but none that I found give me the answer I'm looking for:

What size bolts are the seat cowl fasteners on an 87 VFR700??

I lost the originals - somehow bought new ones - and lost one of those. I'm going to start putting some Loctite on these bad-boys if I can get my hands on a new set.

Does anyone know the size of these bolts or know where to order them? Bike Bandit somehow doesn't list them as an item in stock - which is strange because they seem to list every other small part.

Are you talking about the bolt that is in the seat or the bolt that bolts into that bolt?

You can't order the bolt that goes in the seat, they are part of the seat.
You have to custom make one or get one off an existing seat.

I think you can still order the bolt that secures the cowl and screws into the other bolt, don't know the size of it though.
    cyclepartswarehouse.com has it, $2.54 each.

I always called them Frankenstein Bolts. Mine were custom made by a machinist on a lathe that manufactured custom labratory measuring instruments.

I'm looking for the bolts that hold on the cowl, not the drilled and tapped bolts that are fastened into the seat which the cowl bolts into.
Dookiedook - thanks for that site, but they are charging $2.50 a bolt but $11 for shipping, I would love to find the size of the bolt and grab some a the hardware store.

Yeah, they are pretty cheap but you have to have a worthwhile order to justify the minimum $10 shipping charge ( with me that's at least a $100 order).
For small items like these I usually just go to my local dealer and have them order them, hopefully they charge you less than the $11 shipping overall.
