I have a Yuasa sealed batt.

Can I place this in any direction? IE lay flat, or does the terminals have to be upright?
(Reason I am fabricating a new subframe, and reducing my space under the seat.) Not using the stock seat.

    Short answer. No, but yes.

refer to this link for batteries

you may have them at certian angles, and be able to remain there. but to go upside down or lay flat, you may, for shot and brief periods of time.

Sealed batteries were actually designed for aerospace applications. I.e. F-18 fighters that need to turn a barrel roll, and stay upside down for a few moments. This was normally unachievable with a wet cell battery.

what angle can you go to?
This is directly from the US patent. Ba advised, the battery will still work at full 90° - Horizontal, however the life expectancy is less than if it were vertical by about 1/3

The Suzuki TL1000R has the battery mounted on it's side from the factory.
