You guys missed out on a nice Saturday 200mile ride with a lunch squeezed in. No pics this time but I;ll give you a short route write up... We headed out from Margarita (we being me and Gordon, an RT rider who listed the trip on SLORiders yahoo! group) at 1030a. No one else wanted to brave the 54 degree weather so it was just us. We took 58 west towards McKittrick. As always, 58 was nice and twisty on both ends with some long straights stuck in the middle. Very low traffic on the road. I did spy a VFR heading the opposite direction in a small group. We stopped for lunch at the 'penny' bar in McKittrick. It was a nice lunch for a decent price (less than $10 including a beer), and the food was good. From there we headed down through Taft on 33 (I think) and then took 166 west towards Santa Maria. Again, low traffic and the weather had warmed up to 78 in places (around Old Cuyama) This section of the ride had interesting geology, good mountain views and nice smooth roads. We were running a slow pace but still a little faster than the cages but we never got locked behind them for longer than a couple seconds. After crossing back over to the west side, we took some road through Nipomo (It goes right by Jockos) then caught 101 North. At Pismo, we got off and took Price Canyon Rd and then went on up to 227 and then into SLO. Here's where Gordon left off. I headed up and caught 101 again and headed on back over the grade. It was 75 in SLO and 64 in Atascadero. It's strange how much cooler it felt at 55 than at 60 then after riding in the 70s going back to 64 felt cool again. I was dressed for summer riding so every temp change was noted by me! Anyway, it ended up a little over 200 miles. If I had it to do over, I'd make the start here in Atown and head out on 41 then go south through creston to catch hwy 58. More curves. Gordon said he didn't like curves cause it was too much work! I almost fell off my barstool.
