Been reading on another forum about sargent seats. Seems that with the cowl installed, people have been scratching the paint on the tail. Also claims that it isn't flush with the tank and in some cases is off center. Is this true? Has it happened to you.

I have just received my sargent seat. Sent out the stock and had some mods done. I am very please with it. It fits my tank well, with no problem. The cowl is a bit to get on, the welting gets in the way. I have to give it a little push, but so far so good. I loaded some photos in the photo gallery of the new seat on.

Had one on my '98 -- no problems. Now have one on my '04 -- no problems. I would say if you do, contact them. In my experience, their customer service is very good.

On my '05, the cowl seems to fit a bit wider than on the stock seat. I have to press the sides of the cowl to clear the passenger grab handles. No big deal. Other than that, the Sargent fits perfectly. No scraped paint anywhere. Very comfortable, too.

I've had both issues with my Sargent. The seat cowl fit on top of the Sargent is not good...it did lightly press against the rear tail section of my bike leaving some very light impressions in the paint.

Also, my Sargent does not fit as flush to the tank as the stock seat's very snug fit. It's not a big deal though, I kind of think it's a bit deliberate as the Sargent people probably figure a lot of guys who buy their seat probably install plugs for electrics on their bikes as well so the seat clearance may have a subtle functional advantage over the stock seat.

Bottom line, I LOVE MY SARGENT even in spite of these technical glitches. Who cares about a rear cowl, or about a bit of a gap between the tank and the seat...the Sargent gives me 8hr+ of comfortable riding with absolutely no complaints. It's way, way more comfy than the stock seat and well worth the investment.

I've attached a few pics showing the gap between the seat and the tank that I mentioned in an earlier post. You can also see for yourselves a direct comparison between the stock seat and the Sargent that's currently on my 05' VFR.

I just put a Sargent on this winter, and it fits like a glove against the tank. As far as using the rear cowl as a storage area, I guess it'd work for stuff you don't use much but for things like wallet/sunglasses forget it - it takes way too long wrestling with it to be worth it.
