I recieved a safety recall notice today from Honda Motor Co. Canada. It states "Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has decided that a defect that is related to motor vehicle safety regulations exist in the wiring harness of certain 2002-2005 model year VFR800/A motorcycles....Under certain conditions, the ground wire terminals inside the connector between the main wiring harness and fairing sub-harness can overheat, resulting in melting of the connector and a loss of power to various circuits. As a result, a loss of critical lighting or engine power could occur without warning, which could result in a crash...Honda strongly recommends that you do not ride your VFR until it has been repaired." And it goes on. I contacted Honda in town and the new wire harness will be installed next spring (riding season up here) free of charge (as stated in the letter from Honda Co. Ltd.) This explains much of the problem I've had with my 2005 VFR over-heating and stalling on me at the end of my 9000km ride this summer! I had to park the bike, and lost August - Mid October riding. The remainder of riding season up here. Hopefully all will be repaired and ready to ride next summer. I'm planning another long trip. Anyone else get a similar notice?
Don't have a 6th gen myself, however, I know some folks have discussed it on here a few times. http://vfrworld.com/forums/general-vfr-discussions/10777-recall-notice.html http://vfrworld.com/forums/mechanics-garage/10668-vfr800-recall.html http://vfrworld.com/forums/sixth-generation-2002-2007/10647-2002-2005-honda-vfr-recall-letter.html
Thankx Jason. I read the postings you listed - sounds like the same letter, and it's nice to know that it can easily be fixed. My bike was acting up - so I just went with my gut and parked it for the rest of the summer. Glad I did that. Thankx again. Jane
