Saddle Bags for an 07'

I have an 07' VFR and want to get some saddle bags.
i would like info on hard and soft bags PROS and CONS prices and pic would be good.

Pro's: Easy on easy off, cheap. looks good. no ugly external frame work like hardbags need. Have not had any heat issues with exhaust in 4000 miles of use.
Con's: Have not found any yet

 

how are those with water?

 

They all come with rain covers that go over them and cinch tight in the back. Worked great in the rain last weekend, rode almost 800 miles in one day in and out of rain, nothing got wet.

 

I bought the Honda bags with my 07 and am happy with them. Yes they are pricey but I managed a 20% discount. I park my bike at the train station almost every work day and leave my helmet and jacket locked in the bags. Granted I just started riding again in June but most of the 4000+ miles has been with the bags on. I hear they are on back order until November. Good luck.

 

Con's: Gone in 60 seconds if someone wants them.

For the price though they are hard to beat. Everything Nelson-Rigg makes is first rate. I have similar bags by Cortech that I use on my V-Strom but I have Givi E360's on SW-Motech Quick-Detach racks for my VFR.

Yeah, I know, but it's not the same. I'm paranoid for a reason though.

Right after I got my V-Strom all I had to carry "Stuff" in was an old backpack. I used 4 small bungee cords to secure it to my bike. Always hooked the same way, many, many miles and no problems. Stopped for breakfast one morning and as I was coming out I noticed a kid on a bicycle looking at my bike. He rode off as I came out and I didn't think anything about it. But when I got to my bike 3 of the 4 bungee cords were laying on the ground. They were attached when I went in. If I'd come out about 1 minute later he would have had the 4th off and my backpack would have been gone. Along with my digital camera, GPS, and some other stuff. Ever since I've been very conscious of where I park, what I leave on my bike, and whether or not I can see it.

As I said, I do have bags similar to yours I still use on my V-Strom but I'm always cautious about them because they are so easy to get off. A sharp knife and a few seconds is all it takes. Hard cases are certainly not truly secure but they are more secure than soft ones.

 

Yeah I know what you mean. I only carry clothes in my saddle bags. All my stuff of value goes into my tank bag and that comes with me when I get off the bike.

 

I use Cortech soft saddlebags (full size). I did have to mount some "U " bolts on the rear fender for the retaining straps, and I made up a spacer bar/rack out of EMT conduit to hold them away from the muffler heat shields. They hold quite a bit of clothing.

I also carry a full size duffel bag on top with miscellaneous stuff, including the various layers of riding clothes I think might be necessary. None of these, as mentioned above, are secure from thieves, but most of my stops are for gas.

 

Heat shields

Hey vwrxtrd, where did you get the heat shields for the Nelson Rigg bags?

I have Remus carbon fiber exhaust cans and they don't run too hot, but I'd still like to have the shields.

 

I got the black Givi V35's for my new 07 VFR. I'm taking them on my first camping trip this weekend. They look good on the bike, except from the rear; they make her ass fat. But, very solid, functional, etc. The racks look OK on the bike without the bags in my opinion, but more picky people may not agree. The mounting instructions for the racks were pretty minimal.

I use the shields that came on the bags themselves. They really aren't heat shields just covers to keep from scratching the body work. New enough has the shields http://www.newenoughhp.com/luggage/saddlebags_/nelson_rigg/clhsp_saddlebag_heat_shield_pads.html I have not tried them yet but I will probably get them soon (just in case)

 

I am thinking Givi v35s or kappa k33s so if you could post a couple of pisc that would be great
