I was wondering what speeds others are running at set RPMs. For example: When I am in 6th gear and riding at 5500 RPMs I am crusing at 80mph on the dot. What are others experiencing? At what speeds do others cruse on the HWY?
I seem to be cruising at about 5.5-6k in all gears... I'm getting super poor gas mileage on my 5th gen though... 31.25, could be a correlation ~mikeym
Seems about right to me. I don't think about 6th till I'm around 80. Most of my interstate riding is commuting so I like to keep the RPM's up. Might not have time to down shift while avoiding some latte drinking business women swerving into my lane while chatting up her friends. Action
I have labeled 5th and 6th gears my Harley gears. Great for cruising and gas mileage....but not alot of fun legally.
I try to stay above 4000 and less than 6000 for most types of riding. If the road is clear and dry and I can see around the corners, 7500 on up. For the most part, on the freeways I just go with the flow of traffic. This being California, that means 75 - 90 MPH or about 5500 - 6000 RPM.
I stand corrected, was out today and thought to meself as I'm running up through the gears and said Hmm 100mph is at 7000rpms in 6th. go figure.
It sits around 5000 RPM at about 70 MPH. In town, I try to keep the RPM's between 4500-6000 RPM (the bike gets really shuddery and lurches below this range). I usually only access the VTEC transition when I'm doing something "foolish". Also, in 6th gear the VTEC transition (6400 RPM) occurs at approximately 104 MPH on my 6th gen.
^ You know, that is interesting. Say you're going through the gears, now you find yourself out of Vtec when you need it Hmmm... Curious how the bike is pulling say at 80mph in 5th or 6th, wouldn't you still be in safe mode?
In 5th or 6th gear, the bike pulls nicely from 80 MPH for me. But, you sure notice when the motor hits 6400 RPM at about 104 MPH...things happen much more quickly.
Aww, I feel so out of place among all you guys with newer bikes. At 80+ I'm out of gears and pushing 8k on the tach.
Yeah, I don't shift into 6th until 83mph, the bike's just not happy below 5000rpm at that speed. I often wonder if it unnerves people to hear me shift up at 23mph OVER the speed limit.
maybe cali is slower 5k 70 mph 7k 100 hummm. my first gear is 62 at red line maybe the leos work........................
Thanks for all of the feed back. This has peaked my interest, the dificulty I have is looking at the tach and or speedometer when pulling out of a turn with the engine wound up a 90+.
I don't know what Stuka's was doing (gen.5) but mine (gen.6) was showing 86mph @ 6000rpm and it held these numbers for well over 100miles. I'm a heavy weight... aprox:226lbs...
