Everything I have read about electrical difficulties and R/R failures points to symptoms. With the evidence of scourched connectors, it would seem that "connections" are the problem in every case. A look at the operation of the Zener regulated R/R units points out that if ANY connection between Alternator, R/R and Battery offer resistance, the R/R "takes the heat". An overly warm R/R will not burn connections, only resistance does that. The alternate is true however. Bad connections will fry a R/R!
It should be noted that when typical multi-connector spade terminals heat up, they loose much of their original tension. The connection becomes even less reliable, and additional heating is the result. Avalanch!

Contact enhancer such as available from Radio Shack might be just the thing to PREVENT the distructive consequences of poor connections. I'm doing mine tomorrow!

Oh Don't forget the battery connections!

    Cheers
