Pretty much clean, fill, primer, paint. I have to do my right side fairing from the previous owner's mishaps.

Altho there is finally a great 2-part epoxy that bonds really well with ABS plastic.
As far as I know, it only comes in one color... cream. But this stuff totally rocks!!
It has a very short working time- less than 5 minutes, so if you need to, it's easy enough to hold the parts in place to get a tight fit until it bonds.

Here it is on ebay, but I was able to pick it up at my local Ace Hardware.

As ftl900, all you really need to do is clean the rash, and fill it with body filler. Bondo has always worked fine for me, but some people knock it, and there is probably better stuff out there. Just mix according to instructions, slather it on, and sand to conform to any body lines.

Check youtube, I'm sure there more instructional videos on there than you'll know what to do with.

Cracks are a different beast altogether, but there are plenty of products out there. Q Bond and Plasti Fix are 2 good products for cracks, again, plenty of youtube videos.

Once you have filled the scratches and sanded smooth, hit it with some primer and top it off with your color coat and clear it. Colorrite has a huge supply of factory paint matches. Order what you need from there and order their clear. Put your color down in several coats, and wet sand it gently with a block and some 400 grit. Put your clear on and wet sand with 400, 1000, 2000, then hit it with increasingly fine liquid polishes. Top it off with a good wax and you should be good to go.

It's good for repairing broken pieces, tabs and such, cracks etc, but it wouldn't be worth much for road rash. You'd want to go the filler route mentioned above for road rash.

Bondo was the original stuff. Now it's a line of products. The original stuff does not work well with ABS plastic. It will hold for awhile, then it wont. The stuff just doesn't bond with ABS plastic and when cured is more brittle than the ABS. The panels move and are flexable the Bondo ain't.

There must be 25 or 30 products out there that state they are the perfect solution for repairing ABS plastic. Nost oif what is said is BS and when it isn't the prep steps are usually MIA.

Some dudes here are even plagiarizing, and cutting and pasting shit that somebody else wrote or even has copyrighted.. Way uncool..

Some things sold on Ebay are discontinued, outdated or obsolete products. The sellers buy huge amounts, use the ads or copy from the manufacturers and schlep the stuff to the unwary.

Both Devcon and Permatex are quality outfits and like the Bondo folks make a whole shitload of products.

Member "Marrib" just did a bunch of work on his side panel. It turned out pretty sharp.
You can PM him and see what he did.

Even though this dude may be gay or a commie and rides one of those "other" bikes, He gots his shit together on how to fix busted ABS plastic.

    http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Plastics_repair_with_ABS_cement

Tons of other sources of info including fixing ABS kayaks, model cars bikes and toys made of ABS.

Not a big secret chemically. Methylene Chloride.
