Hey, I have a 1984 700 that i have a question about. To start, my starter switch broke. The spring housing on the switch cracked and broke, so I screwed an eye hook into the switch so that I can still use it. I push it in to start the bike, but because the spring isn't there I pull the switch back out with the eye hook. Well this is finally starting to give me problems so I tried to run a toggle switch to the starter by splicing into the right control block harness to get to the starter wires. So I ran the toggle switch and tried to start it before I put the control block back together. When I did this the bike turned over, but did not start. Frustrated I reassembled the control block and started it using the finicky starter switch. It started fine. Is the bike wired in way that power has to travel to the control block for the bike to be able to start? I was thinking this could be to prevent the bike from being stolen. Thanks, Nick
Nick whatcha doin?? Tryin to Frankenstein your bike?? Sounds like you neglected to consider the kill switch when making your " professional repair "..call me i'll send what you need for the low low price of FREEBIE! It is Christmas afterall..
Haha yeah I am actually. I'm taking it for a short trip tomorrow and its my only way to get there. So I'm trying to be sure the current switch won't leave me hangin. That'd be great though. I need the right control block. I'll give yeh a call in a little bit. My kill switch is disconnected though, so I don't think that should matter. Any ideas?
