Doc said I have carpotunnel syndrom on the clutch hand. He says surgery and no riding for about 4 months. I said fuck that
Do your research. There are several types of surgery for this and thats the only way to fix it. I will have to talk to my mom tonight and confirm her downtime. She had it done on both hands. There is one procedure where they basically have to slit you open from the middle of your forearm to the middle of your hand. There is also another one where they make a few small incisions and do it laproscopically. She went with the laproscopic procedure and I believe her downtime was much much less and the pain was considerably less than the other procedure as well. It has been about fifteen years since she had it done and no problems ever since. Some of the downtime that he might be saying you will have is based upon physical therapy and restrengthening your hand. That could go faster depending on how well the PT goes and how fast you heal compared to others. Sounds like he is giving you a worst case senario for the downtime. The parents are off on the Harley for vacation right now and should be home tomorrow evening. I'll try to catch them when they get to a hotel tonight and find out more. If not, I'll catch them tomorrow night.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??????? Even if you are stuck not riding for 4 months, at least you'll be good for the next SLO!
I think I will wait until i do something nasty to the bike which takes it out of commission for a while. Then at least I will rest assured my down time would have been worth it. I can get by as is for now. Accupuncture works for me on anything that is muscle tension related. I have had no luck with it for anything else. It is the clutch hand. Maybe after a few weeks of recovery, using the clutch often may just be what Pysio is ordering. Hey...I could bill our health care system for riding. I like that. This Canadian Health care can be great.
Clutch? We don't need no stinkin' clutch...LOL! Sorry to hear that Randy. Definitely gonna need that clutch hand. Take care of that my friend,it'll only get worse. Besides, you're not done with that old VFR just yet. Looking forward to reading more stories of your riding escapades. Take care Randy. BTW,good answer to the doctor! LMAO! ound:
I had this surgery done on my right wrist last year about this time. I was riding in about two weeks although the wrist was weak and I could only handle about an hour or so to begin with. At 6 weeks I could handle 2-3 hours and am pretty much normal now. Fixed the numb hand problem with basically no problems so I am pleased.
Actually.... he could trade that in here soon for the 2010 VFR and just go full auto. Twist the throttle and go!
This is Randy we're talking about here. "Normal" is, well, oh never mind... That's not your scotch drinking hand, is it??!!! You can always loan your bike to RVFR while you're recovering. Perhaps that will cure him of his addiction to 4th Gens. Take care, bud.
Randy, that's not good news BUT.... Better to take 4 months off than the rest of your life so do what he says. If I need to come over and "disable" your bike I can do that for you. I think this would be the best time for you to just give me your bike... like we talked about already. oh... and the yucky weather is just around the corner anyway.
I didn't say no.... I said "Fuck that" I know that surgery is enevitable so will have to be done eventually. But, and someone in the know may correct me here, putting it off will not worsen the outcome when I decide to have it done. Thankfully it is only one hand. And it is still functionable at this point. I can still clutch. I can drink Scotch by holding the bottle in either hand. I wipe my bum with my right so that is covered. I can always install a biddet anyhow. Nasal house keeping is an issue. But a damned good sneeze usually takes care of that. JasonSmith. You will get my bike when pigs fly....Oops. Wait a minute. I am a qualified Aircraft Speedreader and LETA Recognized Thermographer. And RVFR will have to fend for himself. He's a murderer.
you know, you dont really have to clutch a whole lot on the vfr if you have good timing with the throttle and shift. also, as far as it getting worse, if you can take the pain, the surgery is gonna be the same now or later AFAIK.
That's what I thought Reg. The cortezone injections for the tendonitis seems to settle it down some too. Surgery is probably a long time away. And I do a LOT of clutchless shifting. Perfected it a couple years ago
Yeah Knife. I'm not in a big hurry for the surgery. There is really no pain associated with this yet. Just numb fingertips so far, No doubt it will likely have to be done sometime though. Unless I die with a smile on my face but we won't entertain that. I will be sure to plan my injections so that I get one just before Slo in the spring. I can't believe a BBQ has such an inpact on one's life.
