I just bought a pair of Bilt brand boots from cycle gear. They are a mid top boot made from leather and cordura and they carry a 5 year warranty. I talked to an employee about them. He said that CycleGear actually asks their employees to try on all their gear and offer feedback. The first version of the Pit boot sucked, he told corporate and apparently many other employees did as well. The current version is the second iteration of the boot. He said that every concern was addressed and he likes the boot. They had some icon mid boots in store and I compared them both. The icon mid boot seems to rise less than the pit boot and I feel like the lateral support is the same on both. Construction seems very solid and it fit my very flat size 12 feet extremely well. I've worn them a couple of times and I am VERY pleased with the fit and finish so far. They walk great, but feel solid when riding. The reflective piping does its job and the speed lacing works well. The top strap is secured via velcro and there isn't enough loop fabric to allow you to cinch it down enough. That is my only complaint and is easily solved by stitching on some more loop fabric. I very much like and recommend these boots. Jose
Living with the boots I have developed ONE complaint. The velcro that secures the ankle strap leaves much to be desired. It constantly lets go and leaves you with out any ankle support. I also use it to secure the long laces and they end up flopping around. I decided to modify the boots, by adding a couple of side release, nylon buckles. I re-used the leather strap and got some rivets from Michael's. The other thing I considered was just putting a piece of nylon webbing all the way around and riveting it on in three spots. It would also have the buckle sewn onto the end, but I could mount it with the buckles more off to the side. We'll see how it goes. Other than the strap issue, the boots are GREAT!!!!! I highly recommend them. Jose
