Hi all, has anyone else had their rev counter needle just stop working?

i've had my 2004 VFR800 for 6 years now. Two years ago, the rev counter needle just stopped working. A local Honda dealer was not sure whether it was the dash unit or the ECU, both of which cost a fair bit and as I never really look at the revs, I didn't bother fixing it!

Recently I started thinking about it again and got a second hand dash unit, no joy and checked the wiring between the ECU & dash - all good. Still kept thinking if it were the ECU then surely a code would come up to indicate a problem.

I have no idea how/where the sensor is that picks up the revs.
Appreciate any guidance or options to try.

    Cheers
