While installing new HID lights on my 2003, I removed the lean angle switch and without thinking turned on the key to check out the lights (duh).
I know this is a no no, now the bike won't start.
The FI light will not illuminate, nor will the pump prime when the start switch is on.
Does anyone know how to reset the switch?

When I dropped my 99 in my driveway shortly after I got it *facepalm* it did the exact same thing when i first turned the key on. I cycled the key on and off several times and it recovered, started and ran fine.

There was a thread a couple of months ago where a member said he tapped his switch flat on the ground to get it to reset.

Kawasaki 1500 v twins had them too/ The owner would take the tank off for maintenience and when they took off the little instrument panel on the dash, they would unplug it, and lay it upside down on the work bench and then the bike would not run anymore.

The WORKSHOP manual warned the mechanic about this.

But they FAILED to tell the mechanic that the mercury switch was wrapped in white tape and you could not see it.

Some hair was pulled out on that deal.

Paid to have the shop manual.

I know I'm a little old and have old vehicles. A lean angle switch? On a motorcycle? WTF for? Yea I've been down quite a few times and the motor stops with kill switch, leaving in gear and grabbing rear brake or just plain stalls. Now we need a lean angle switch.? What happens if you can really lean a bike in corners? It shuts off? That would be the first thing to go. No matter what. If you crash and it catches fire then let it burn.
Drop the bike once, fall over, and you can't start it? WTF. What's the thinking behind that?

The switch has the wrong name.
The purpose of the switch is to shut off the fuel.
In case the bike tips over or is an accident.

That is WHY they put fuel pumps on carbed bikes when it would work without one,so they can meet a safety concern. Automatic electrical shutoff of the fuel pump.

If you look at the wiring diagram you can track the wires to the fuel pump from that switch.

The tip over switch isn't affected by leaning in corners as the centrifugal force of the cornering puts all of the force in a downward direction, not sideways.

First of all thanks for all the posts. The bike was taken to the shop to do the reset. When asked, they gave me a generic "had to hook it up to the diagnostics and perform the reset". Learned a valuable lesson, bike's running great and my new HIDs are awesome.

That bank angle sensor is standard stuff. People that drag raced Hayabusas would take the black box apart and silicon the ball captive, because the bikes launched so hard that they would shut off. Have heard something about a Wonda ST1300 stuck and think it was the bank angle sensor. Anyway, good think they plugged and played with your bikie. Hate being at the mercy of a dealer though. Cheers
