I'M beginning to rehab my 87 VFR. I haven't done anything with it since I hit a dog in a turn and was pitched off high side over the bars in October 2000.

So I notice the valve stem on the rear tire has become old worn and dead and broken.

Q: Can the valve stem be replaced without removing the rear wheel and busting the tire?

I'm not sure but I don't think so. I think the valve stem goes in from inside. But if you haven't touched the bike since 2000, it would probably be a smart idea to replace the tires anyway. Tires more than four years old have much increased risk of blowout.

While I certainly plan on installing new rubber, I want to be able to roll it about to start on a slew of other stuff. I'M hoping to replace the stem just till I can get to a tire shop.

Fixing up this bike is the last thing I have left to prove.
