When I loosened the top clamp form the fork tube, I heard the spring go boing in the tube:confused: , as pressure was released form the clamp.

Is this normal? I don't recall, but I'm pretty sure I torqued all the fasteners to spec.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks
    Robert

That's a good one. I say no. If they're just normal forks, I wouldn't worry. The spring is held down by the cap, and sits on top of the damping rod. Do they take air pressure?

Not sure how your fork is setup inside, but maybe the washer (spring seat) under the preload tube got cockeyed and wedged itself against the fork wall. Releasing the pressure around the fork tube allowed it to re-orient itself properly and subsequently allowed the spring to return to it's full length.

Definitely inspect the inside of the fork upper and lower for scratches and gouges - along with all the internal parts.
