My front springs and rear shock need to be replaced. What should I replace them with OEM or aftermarket? Which brand? What lasts longer?

    Thanks, Mike

I can help you out with that! Something to bear in mind is that springs do not "wear out", this is a common misconception. In forks the springs actually slide a little which can generate wear on the material over time. It takes a very long time to make a significant change. Fork springs are changed for a much more inportant reason - performance!

As for the rear shock, I have found the Showa units to hold up the best. The Showa shocks will go 40k+ before requiring servicing. That includes a Showa that has been revalved.

Is there a particular reason you say "they need replaced"? Are they just worn out, you don't like the performance, or something else?

My suspension upgrade plans for my 2k VFR are: Race Tech Fork Springs and Gold Valve Kit, a refitted 929 shock with spring for my weight and Racetech Gold valve kit. I would suggest checking RaceTech's Website and calling them.

I had Jamie Daugherty set me up with a front end spring/valve set, which I installed myself and had him update an ABS model shock for my NON-ABS '09, which he took care of in his shop. I ride mostly as a "commuter" on the VFR but the difference in road feel is substantial and I hope this weekend I'll be able to test the "sport" personality of the bike. I am happy with what Jamie has setup for me and if look up on the forum you'll see that he has a good reputation and really knows around the VFR. Of course YMMV, but FWIW I read more positive reviews of JD than I did for RT. Just my 2 cents.

    Cheers!

I had Jamie rework my front fork and rebuild a 929 shock with the appropriate springs and guts. The bike is now a lot more fun to ride!

I am sending my 954 stuff to him as well whenever I get off my duff and start rebuilding that thing. Ha!

Well, the bike has 32k on it now so they are worn out. The front end feels dead and I'm out of adjustment. The rear end isn't much better. It feels pretty soft at this point.
