My VFR800 has been great. I have just returned from 1000 mile ride from Maryland to Myrtle Beach, SC and back and the experience was outstanding. However, I’m having a serious fuse problem. My digital dash display, front light and back light keep going out. It is a 10 amp fuse issue. Something is repeatedly shorting out the fuse. I have made no modification to the bike, and laid it down once in January (repaired by the dealer). Suddenly without any abnormal riding, the fuse will blow and the display (along with my front and rear lights) will go out – no reading on the display at all. Has anyone else experienced this?

Welcome to the sight. Sounds like a great ride.

I can't really help you with your issue, though. Of course you can check the obvious things, such as looking at any and all connections, making sure your ground is solid, etc.

Everything else is cool? No other issues with the way it runs? How often does it blow the fuse? Is it immediately, or is there something that triggers it? Any "extras" on the bike, such as an alarm, heated gear, GPS plug in...trying to think of anything that could be tied into it.

Something is happening after the fuse and before the load. A wire grounding itself, or an "unnecessary mean" to ground. Study that 10amp fuse circuit. You might have to test every wire.

I traced all the wires, and the problem is coming from under the seat - near the rear tail light. I can wiggle the rear end and short out the fuse, but still can't determine exactly which wire or see any visable damage/touching.

Is it happening in the taillight sub harness or the main wiring harness. You're getting closer. Don't stop now.

Also, in the meantime, you can get a 10A circuit breaker so it will reset itself without you having to keep swapping fuses.

You mean switch out the entire box for a switch breaker? Ohhhh, they make a mini 10 amp fuse breaker?

I'm in Baltimore (Towson Area). Maybe next week if I haven't found a solution.

If you're lucky, you can find a circuit breaker that will plug right in. If you're not lucky you'll have to make jumpers/adapters with some spade terminals , wire, and crimpers. Just make sure the male spades you use aren't bigger than the fuse blades otherwise you will permenantly stretch the female terminals in the fuse box, and we all know nobody likes a stretched female terminal................:potstir:
