Repair the fairing behind the turn signals

I am aware that my bike probably went down on its left side. The clutch lever was bent out, there is a slight road rash on the LL fairing, and also this: Looking at the left front turn signal the area around part of it is open, a hole, where I expect to see red flashing behind the light assembly. Looking at the diagrams it looks like the turn signal is supported in front and back by a diamond-shaped piece, maybe red plastic? So I surmise the prior owner landed on the turn signal and it punched out the front support. Maybe the light was replaced as there is not a mark on it, or maybe it is hard enough where it survived intact as the support took the brunt of the blow.

The main thing I do not like is that rain or wash water would hit the top of the light fixture then flow behind the fairing. But also, if I touch up the rash and fix this as well, the bike will look like new. There's not a scratch elsewhere.

Does the upper fairing require removal? Or if the left fairing is removed is there plenty of access to fix this?

I do not see a part for this so I presume the turn signal supports are part of the fairing?

My mechanic will be doing the maintenance in spring. At that time I could provide pics or answer questions about what we find inside.

 

It would be a lot easier if you remove the front fairing. I don't think I have pictures of it, but my '01 had a similar issue where the PO had dropped it and cracked the plastic where the turn signal mounts. I was able to do a quick and simple repair by using a plastic welder. If it was still on the bike when I did this, I would have been cursing and possibly burned myself if not something on the bike.

 

^ What he said.. I'd remove the upper fairing and do it on the bench. I fixed similar damage on my fairing with ABS( dwv pipe) cement. Patience and prep is the key. I got away without the repair showing too much on the shiny side. So I did not have to touch up the crack repair area.

 

What if when I get in there, I discover that the turn signal mount bracket piece is missing? Is there a supply of a similar material that I could cut the part out of?

 

I can hardly wait till Spring.
