    hey all,

i have a 1984 VF700F. it's a california model, meaning it comes with two charcoal canister air filters connected to the front fairing stay... i'm re-working the front and moving to a fork mounted system for the headlight and gauges...

so, my question is, can i just remove them? i know the other bikes built for everyone else in other states don't even have them, and we don't have inspections for registering motorcycles here in CA (i'm assuming this was just a law applying to the manufacture of the motorcycle?)...

so... would that cause any problems? can anyone enlighten me on the system?

You know, everyone that I've heard of trying to do this ran into quite a bit of problems. In order to do this you'll need to find 49-state carbs. Otherwise you'll find yourself in an endless chase of your own tail!

    Good luck!

You do not gain anything by removing the charcoal filters except maybe make more of a risk in your garage with fumes getting ignited.

They do not weigh anything and you can move them almost anywhere.
I have one on my chopper and I bet most people could not even find it.
