2000 VFR800 - Bike drains battery under operation. Holds trickle charge.

Swapped out Reg/Rect since it was original and know most have been replaced. Still have battery drain. Most likely I have a Stator issue?

Start by checking/cleaning all the connections, including starter relay... then test charging voltage while running at idle and various rpms. Whatcha got?

I probably tested incorrectly, did it off battery terminals and had 12v while running. Assuming starter relay is on the starter? Will Stator looked discolored or burnt if bad?

Sadly charging system issues have affected many VFR versions prior to the the7th/8th gen models. All 4 elements of the charging system (RR, Stator, Battery, Loom) need to be in good order, and a fault in any one can potentially damage some or all of the others.

So yes a failing stator could result in the battery being drained whilst riding.

However before throwing cash speculatively at what "might" be the cause of your battery being drained, I suggest you read post #9 in the following thread and test the charging system components

    https://vfrworld.com/threads/how-to-fix-common-regulator-stator-failures.39277/

or if you are not confident electrical testing, you could simply remove the stator cover and take a look inside. If you then find burnt or crispy fried segments on the stator (often with a distinct burnt electrical winding smell) then you will need to get the stator rewound or replaced. However if it looks OK, then all you may need is to bolt it back on although you may need to fit a new stator cover gasket. and then look at the other elements of the charging system to track down why your battery is being drained.
