Rear suspension ,interchangable or not??

    Can any experienced VFR owners our there tell me if I can swap rear shockers from a VFR FL 1991 to a VFR FV 1997. I would like to rebuild an old shocker from my FL and use it on the FV because its way cheaper than buying new. However I dont know if this is possible, according to David Silver these two shocks are different part numbers which would indicate this to be not a sensible idea!
    Anybody know the answer to this one?
